Gov. Jeff Landry announced Tuesday the creation of the new Governors Coalition for Energy Choice along with New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu.
The two Republican governors launched the coalition to “minimize permitting and other regulatory barriers, limit expensive energy mandates, focus on affordability and reliability of energy infrastructure,” and to “ensure continued energy choice,” according to a news release from Landry’s office.
“One thing is clear — states that enhance energy choice also enjoy lower energy costs, increase reliability, and attract businesses and employment opportunities,” Landry said. “As governor of a major energy-producing state, I know that it is important to sustain those trends for the benefit of residents and businesses.”
Sununu in the announcement said high energy costs are “driven by government regulation” and costs in New Hampshire have been managed by “embracing fuel choice and minimizing expensive mandates.”
Eight other Republican governors have already signed onto the coalition, the announcement said.
These include Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp along with the governors of Indiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Wyoming and Virginia.
